"Vascular changes in Hypertension and Diabetes"
Abstract: Recent advances in retinal imaging have enabled cellular resolution imaging of the living human eye. By combining an adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope optimized for clinical imaging with a flexible detection scheme we have been able to make detailed measurements of changes to the retinal vasculature. In diabetics these changes include early microcystic changes as well as changes to the arterioles and capillaries walls, capillary dropout, and vascular remodeling. The diabetic changes to vessel walls are more locally variable than are seen in hypertension.
