Over the past year our new centre for eye care, research, and education in St Pancras, Camden, has taken leaps forward: all ten levels of the building’s structure have been built.

The build is a once in a generation opportunity to create a centre that will gather ophthalmic research, clinical care and education under one roof. Our aim is to bring researchers and clinicians closer together to collaborate and develop treatments and therapies faster, benefiting patients at Moorfields and around the world.
The centre will provide an enhanced experience for staff, students and Moorfields Eye Hospital's patients, along with visitors who will be able to access ‘science on show’ in public areas of the building.
UCL Institute of Ophthalmology colleagues have helped shape the design through engagement in user groups for different aspects of the build. Their contribution and expertise has been invaluable.
On 11 December 2024 we celebrated reaching the highest point of the building with a topping out celebration hosted by the Oriel project and construction partner Bouygues.
The focus for 2025 will be on the internal fit-out. This year we released 'fly through' animations showing areas staff and patients will use. For now the external façade of the centre continues to be installed, this is the outer material of the building that gives the centre its unique look.
We plan to open the centre in 2027.
