Public lectures, seminars and IoO Awards 2024

IoO PI Away Day 2024

Our series of Inaugural Lectures, celebrating our new professorial colleagues, continued in 2023-2024.

Konstantinos Balaskas, Professor of Medical Artificial Intelligence and Applied Health Research; Bruce Allan, Professor of Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgery; and Anthony Khawaja, Professor of Ophthalmology, presented their innovative research first-hand between January and April 2024.

In June we welcomed Professor Catherine Bowes Rickman, from Duke University School of Medicine, to deliver a very successful Annual Lecture, followed by the celebration of the annual IoO Awards.

Spotlight on Lisa Andrews, winner of the IoO Director's Award

Education Manager Lisa Andrews

  • What is your current role and what does it involve?

I am Education Manager and have been working at the IoO since September 2023. I am responsible for managing all education activities at strategic and operational levels. Included in this is managing a team of six fantastic administrators who support our PGT and PGR students.

  • What working achievement or initiative at the institute are you most proud of?

We successfully got through an OFSTED inspection within the first six months I was in the role. It was a challenging experience but also enjoyable because everyone pulled together as a team.

  • How did you feel upon receiving the Director's Award in 2024?

I was surprised and delighted, I appreciated the acknowledgement.

  • What do you think is the best thing about working at the institute?

The people! I enjoy working with the diverse range of colleagues and students we have here.
