The Institute is committed to promote career progression for all staff, and help with the management of life/work family balance. The Institute hosts locally a number of career enhancing events to facilitate career progression for junior scientists, and offers individual career advice services and mentoring. All events aim at promoting promotion and career advancement within a gender-equal environment. The Athena SWAN assessment team has a special sub-committee devoted to careers (Maria Balda, Natalie Reeve, Erika Aquino, Anastasia Lampropoulou, Rose Richardson and Radhika Shah) , so please contact any member of the team if you have suggestions for new events.

Career advice surgery

Since July 2014 the Career Advice Surgery has been open to any request by students or postdocs who would like to have a discussion with any of the Advisors on the list below. The role of these Career Advisors is to provide information on academic and career issues, advise on the academic ladder and alternative tracks, review documents such as the curriculum vitae, and direct to other resources of assistance.

Academic careers and fellowships

Our ambition is to increase the early-mid grade researchers through fellowships, offering faculty positions at lectureships if progression is satisfactory. It is thus crucial that fellows are supported during that transition, and provided with adequate leadership and management training.
