Lab equipment repair workshop on 20th July
Labs brought faulty lab equipment to be checked by a team of engineers, who carried out minor repairs straight away and free of charge
Meet your Green champions 21st July 2022
ION Green and Lab Champions demonstrated ION sustainability activities, including Lab freebies, Sashiko embroidery, book swap, Toast beer tasting!
We invited people to make pledges, and list goals and challenges they have for their department/team, and what sustainable lab initiative or improvement they would like to see at ION
- Pledges included: carry your own cup, repair more clothes, stop using single use plastic, optimise travel, minimise carbon footprint, switch off lights when not in use, set our -80 freezers to -70degreesC;
- Goals and challenges included: reducing single use plastic, making eco products more available (e.g. 100% recycled paper), plumbed in water fountain, UCL not providing recycling bins, balancing aircon/window ventilation as infection control measure, UCLH buildings - lack of data and limited recycling options;
- Lab initiative and improvements included: more Lab vending machines, central ION store, increase in packaging which can be recycled, regular freezer clear out, polystyrene box recycling.
