Cassandra Fetkowitz, Clinical Neuroscience: Neuromuscular Disease MSc

"This course was a perfect combination of my interests in the brain and the musculoskeletal system."

Cassandra Fetkowitz

Why did you choose to apply to this programme?

I chose the neuromuscular disease programme at UCL because it is unique in its short duration and comprehensive coverage of neuromuscular disorders. Previously earning a bachelor’s degree in behavioural neuroscience, I also wanted a degree which was more specialised than the more general clinical neuroscience course.

I am particularly interested in muscle physiology and this course was a perfect combination of my interests in the brain and the musculoskeletal system.

What have you enjoyed most about the programme so far?

I have enjoyed the courses tailored specifically to the neuromuscular disease track because of their small class sizes. This allows for intimate and meaningful connections with peers, professors, and the material.

I also loved having an elective course module which allowed me to study a complementary topic outside of neuromuscular concepts.

What are your future career goals?

My goal after earning my master’s degree is to attend medical school to earn my MD.

What would be your top tip for incoming students?

Do not be afraid to express your interests and what you are looking to accomplish and be sure to network. There are several opportunities at UCL that will not present themselves unless you search for them!
