Summary

The module covers the following areas: principles of research governance, phases of drug development, data management and safety measures in early phase clinical trials, biomarkers and surrogate markers of pharmacodynamic action and efficacy, pharmacokinetic, emerging technologies and examples of innovative trials in key neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.

The module covers the following areas: principles of research governance, phases of drug development, data management and safety measures in early phase clinical trials, biomarkers and surrogate markers of pharmacodynamic action and efficacy, pharmacokinetic, emerging technologies and examples of innovative trials in key neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module the students will have an understanding of: At the end of the module students will have an understanding of the principles and regulations underpinning clinical research, as well as the roles of multidisciplinary research teams and how to design and implement a clinical trial from protocol development through implementation, data analysis and reporting.

Assessment criteria

2 hour unseen examination (short answer format) + 2,000 word short essay
