Research departments

We have eight departments covering clinical and basic research, spanning areas that range from brain rehabilitation to neuromuscular diseases.
Neuroinflammation

Brain Repair and Rehabilitation

We are home to a collaboration of interlinked neurological research areas focused on advancing scientific knowledge to further patient recovery and management.

IoN

Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy

Our mission is to transform the lives of people living with epilepsy for the better by identifying, understanding and preventing the underlying mechanisms.

Imaging neuroscience

Clinical and Movement Neurosciences

We are a world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology of human movement and movement disorders.

Brain Imaging

Imaging Neuroscience

We include staff located in the Leopold Muller Functional imaging laboratory (FIL) and the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research.

neuroimaging

Neurodegenerative Disease

We have strong focus on mechanistic dissection of genetic, molecular cellular and neuropathological processes which underlie neurodegeneration in particular diseases.

IoN

Neuroinflammation

The main focus of the department is research into multiple sclerosis and we employ a broad range of basic and clinical methods, including clinical therapeutic trials.

Neuromuscular Diseases

Neuromuscular Diseases

We are a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases, focused on developing novel therapeutic solutions.

dementia

UK Dementia Research Institute at UCL

UCL was selected as the hub of the UK Dementia Research Institute to advance understanding of neurodegeneration and therapeutic approaches for dementia.
