Neurosurgical Observerships

Neurosurgical observerships are offered on an ad-hoc basis within the UCLH National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery for students over the age of 18. The observers are offered an opportunity to visit departments to gain knowledge and expertise in neurosurgical sub-specialties. 

To enquire about undertaking a neurosurgical observership, applicants should contact a consultant in the neurosurgical subspecialty in which they are interested. Further information can be found on the Consultants page.

Definition of an observer

An observer is: an individual who attends and observes within the workplace, for the benefit of their training or research. They cannot be directly involved in any work activity, cannot carry out clinical assessments, treat patients or take medical histories and must be supervised at all times.

Charges and Payments

For all new Honorary Observers wanting to come to Queen Square will be charged £300 each. There are some exceptions for those who are here for less than 7 working days, school leavers/students and those from low-income countries at the discretion of the Clinical Director.

Timeframe

As the Honorary process can take up to 6 to 8 weeks please consider this time scale when submitting the application.
