Queen Square Inaugural Lecture: Professor Quentin Huys
27 February 2023
UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology held its second inaugural lecture evening of 2023, on 21st February 2023, which was joined online and in person by many UK and international attendees.
Professor Quentin Huys (Professor of Computational Psychiatry) “Computational Psychiatry – of thoughts and destinies”
Quentin Huys is Professor of Computational Psychiatry in UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and UCL Division of Psychiatry. He is also the deputy director of the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research, and a consultant psychiatrist with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. Quentin did his undergraduate at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge University, followed by a MB/PhD at UCL Medical School and the Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit with Peter Dayan.
After postdoctoral research at the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at Columbia University, he undertook his psychiatry residency at the Hospital of Psychiatry in Zurich and was as a senior research fellow at the Translational Neuromodeling Unit, which is part of both ETH Zürich and the University of Zürich.
"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to join UCL as a professor. I am particularly grateful to be able to do so as part of both QSIoN and DoP. This reflects the openness and support I have experienced at UCL over the years, and which underpins its scientific excellence. It is this collegial, supportive and intellectually curious atmosphere that made my academic career at the interface of two otherwise rather distant disciplines - computational theory and medicine - possible in the first place". Professor Quentin Huys.
Introduction and closing remarks were given by Professor Dimitri Kullmann, Deputy Director, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (Enterprise, Translation and Advanced Therapeutics) with a vote of thanks by Professor Ray Dolan, Kinross Professor of Neuropsychiatry, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
