Size and location

Where will the dual hub be located?

The dual hub centre will be located at Queen Square House (adjacent to the National Hospital for Neurology) and on the Eastman Dental hospital site on Gray’s Inn Road just a short walk from Queen Square.

Will the Institute of Neurology develop the whole of the EDH site?

The whole Eastman Dental Hospital site provides UCL with three plots of land (Royal Free Hospital (RFH), Eastman Dental Hospital and Levy Wing).

IoN and DRI will redevelop the RFH plot along with 25% of QSH, to create a new home operating across these two hubs. UCL is considering the best use of the remaining two plots of land.

How much space will the dual hub occupy?

The space has yet to be fully designed it is estimated that the EDH plot will provide a total of 17,450 m2 space. We will populate circa three floors of Queen Square House – 2,500 m2.

Where will the UK Dementia Research Institute be based at UCL?

The UK DRI will be within the new EDH location once it has been completed. In the interim they are currently being housed in our Cruciform Building. Their reception is on the first-floor central area. Their laboratories, PI offices and write up space are in wings 1.2, 2.3 and 2.4. Their Corporate Services team will be based on the 6th floor of Maple House.

Programme

How long will the programme take?

We anticipate that the majority of work for the dual hub will be completed in 2023 and it will be populated in 2024.

Who is the sponsor of the ION-DRI programme?

Alan Thompson Dean of the Faculty of Brain Sciences is sponsor of the ION-DRI programme.

Who is managing the programme?

Michael Schuitevoerder is programme director and reports to the programme sponsor, Alan Thompson. Michael works closely with Mike Hanna & Adrian Ivinson (DRI COO) to ensure IoN, DRI needs are met and the programme can be monitored and delivered.
