We will take a European perspective on the paradigmatic example of combat stress of World War I, shell shock, and discuss the enduring relevance of psychological war trauma.
The symposium will offer the ideal setting for the launch of La guerra dei nervi (Guida, 2021). This book is the Italian edition of Stefanie Linden’s original work They Called It Shell Shock (Helion & Co., 2016), which provides a comprehensive analysis of the Queen Square records. This book has been translated by Rossana Rizzo, Information Assistant at UCL Queen Square Library, and includes an introductory essay by Professor Antonio Gibelli, First World War historian.
