More and more young adults are presenting with complex neurological conditions, and commonly their rehabilitation needs to include the return to parenting and spousal roles. This work is often carried out by adult neurological rehabilitation teams who may not be trained in, for example, understanding a child’s needs or perspective. Therapists may be unfamiliar with what parental and spousal roles entail, and added to this, child and adult health and social care services may be disjointed. Using our usual 10-minute presentation format, we invite you to share your experiences of how teams have addressed these challenges. How and when do we involve children in the rehabilitation of their parent? How have we used other sectors – charities / education / social services?
Presenting insights, methods, case reports, and resources developed to aid neurorehabilitation for young adults with complex neurological conditions, focusing on their return to parenting and spousal roles. Occupational Therapists, psychologists, social workers and others describe their challenges – and solutions – in this area.
