Brain Meeting
Abstract:
The neurobiological mechanisms underlying the reorganisation of the mature human brain associated with training or recovery of lost function are largely unknown. Using magnetic resonance imaging and longitudinal study design our group pioneered the field of in vivo investigation of training-induced structural brain plasticity in humans. Subsequent studies confirmed the notion of remodelling of brain anatomy, failed however to provide further insight into the underlying neurobiological processes.
In my talk I will present our strategy for investigation and interpretation of exogenously induced brain anatomy changes based on quantification of specific tissue properties. The aim is to validate the methods by addressing a series of questions in histo-pathologically well-characterised conditions.
