Cultural aspects of clinical encounters: an interactive workshop

Dr. Caroline Selai BA (Hons), MSc, PhD, DipPsych, CPsychol,  Chartered Psychologist and practitioner registered with Health Professions Council (HPC),  Senior Lecturer in Clinical Neuroscience, Institute of Neurology, UCL & Co-director of UCL Cultural Consultation Service (CCS) 

This workshop draws on academic literature in several fields, including cross-cultural psychiatry, health psychology, anthropology and the social sciences, plus the expertise of the CCS consultants, clinical material and anonymised cases.

Content:

(1) Background theory including clinical anthropology, health psychology

(2) Clinical encounters: the phenomenological experience; understanding illness; beliefs about illness; cultural aspects of health seeking behavior

(3) The interview

(4) Interventions for individuals and groups.

(5) Outcomes and evaluation
