Trained at the IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society as a Secondary Science Teacher, Adam is currently a Senior Teaching Fellow and Course Director on the MSc in Advanced Neuroimaging at UCL Institute of Neurology.
A Physicist, his PhD was in Electrical Impedance Tomography of the human brain, when his focus was the development of image reconstruction algorithms. He subsequently held a postdoctoral position at the Department for Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Institute of Neurology, where his focus was on the analysis of EEG and fMRI data acquired simultaneously from patients with refractory epilepsy.
Adam has co-directed the MSc in Advanced Neurology with Prof Tarek Yousry since its launch in 2008. Since then, he has been keen to innovate and ensure that the course delivery methods draw from current trends in education, where appropriate. In 2013, he received a SLMS Innovation Award to introduce a Mini MRI scanner for use by students on the course and assess their work through production of Vlogs. In 2016, he received the Provosts Teaching Award primarily for his work in this area and for his introduction of various other peer-led assessment methods.
He was also recently instrumental in launching the same course via Distance Learning and is enthusiastic about the potential impact of this provision on the treatment and management of Neurological Disease in developing countries.
Adam is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a UCL Arena Associate Fellow. He recently won the Provost's Teaching Award.
