Why did you choose to study your programme and what made you choose the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology?

My previous degree contained a lot of purely biological/chemical neuroscience with experimental work and the clinical aspect strongly attracted me. The introduction to various research and laboratory methodologies in that BSc made me even more interested; making me committed to further develop my acquired competences and expand my knowledge regarding novel therapies through an MSc. This course was particularly appealing to me for its cutting-edge research and structural content, and also on the account of its high standard of education and professionalism, presenting it as a truly incredible opportunity.

What do enjoy most about your programme?

The programme represents a great amalgam of both biological and clinical content delivered by experts in their fields, making it an enriching experience. Moreover, the ability to attend lectures both face to face and online introduces great adaptability for students as the workload can be heavy.

What impact has receiving the scholarship had for you?

It has given me financial flexibility to focus on my studies, which is something that is extremely important for me, due to my chronic condition, affecting my cognitive abilities.

What advice would give prospective students thinking of studying at the Queen Square Institute of Neurology?

Prepare appropriately. Even if you already possess a background in neuroscience, you may have an advantage at the start, but it is very easy to become overwhelmed if your work is not consistent. If you do not possess a background in neuroscience, I still encourage you to take this course, as it is a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and yourself if it is an area you are interested in; however I recommend you start reading biological neuroscience before the course as I know quite a few of the friends I have made from various backgrounds have struggled initially.

What are your plans for the future once you have completed your degree?

PhD / Research assistant, although I require more time to reflect on the details of these options.
