Cortical Control of Skilled Hand Function

Alexander Kraskova.kraskov{at}ion.ucl.ac.uk

I am a Wellcome Trust Research Fellow in the lab of Prof Roger Lemon at the Sobell Department of UCL Institute of Neurology.

Before joining Roger’s lab I was a Swartz postdoctoral fellow at Sloan Swartz Center of Theoretical Neuroscience working with Prof. Christof Koch, Caltech. My research was focused on understanding whether LFPs potentials recorded in medial temporal lobe of human epileptic patients can be selective to categories of images presented to patients. We also investigated explicit encoding of multimodal percepts by single neurons in the human brain. The experiments were done in the lab of Dr. Itzhak Fried, UCLA.

I received my PhD degree (summa cum laude) from University of Wuppertal, Germany in the lab of Prof. Peter Grassberger based in John von Neumann Institute for Computing (full Phd text). I worked on methods for analysis of experimental (mostly physiological) data. We developed a new method for estimation of mutual information which was successfully applied to the clustering of data and to independent component analysis (ICA).
