Sensitive redevelopment and consideration of historical features will enhance the character and appearance of the conservation site, merging the old and the new.

Externally, the development will enhance the biodiversity of the site and improve the green infrastructure surrounding the building.

New landscaped areas include a sensory garden, a courtyard and plenty of green space.

Respect for the environment and local community are key principles underpinning the development. The site will be open to the public with a café and exhibition spaces.

The site will provide thoroughfares for both walkers and cyclists. The intent is to provide the community with a welcoming environment with easy access through to neighbouring roads.

The new building will focus on the sharing of equipment, space and services to encourage a collaborative, efficient and sustainable way of working.

A configurable lecture theatre is one of the building’s mix of spaces that can be adapted to support different types of interactions.

A collaborative, interdisciplinary environment will enable researchers, clinicians and patients to interact seamlessly, advancing research into treatments at a faster pace.

The new facility will provide 22 new outpatient rooms for the UCLH National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), along with an integrated MRI suite.

The new building will target BREEAM Excellent rating, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 40% and produce low levels of waste going into landfill from the construction process.
