Building Works

31 July 2019

IOE Library

From Monday 29 July - Friday 6 September there will be a building project to develop the IOE Library service desk and entrance area – we will be installing more and better turnstiles, a new service desk, and making several other improvements to the IOE Library front entrance area. This work will enable us to continue providing high quality services as the number of people using the IOE Library continues to rise.

However, this project will result in some limited reductions in our services and could result in noise disturbances. The important points to note are:

  • If people have a UCL ID card or a UCL Library card they can access the IOE Library (and the PC Labs) and borrow material for the duration of the project.

  • Access to the IOE Library will be via the side door off Core B, near PC Labs 1, 2, 3 and 4 (the Main IOE Library entrance will be out of use for the duration of the project) – a guard will physically check all cards.

  • If someone has booked a session in one of the PC Labs (1, 2, and 3) in the IOE Library they will need to email the names of any non-UCL participants to the IOE Library Customer Services team ioe.librarycustomerservices@ucl.ac.uk at least one working day in advance to ensure they will be able to access the PC Labs. All UCL people must bring their ID to gain access to the Library and PC Labs 1, 2, and 3.

  • There may be noisy works until 10am each weekday (but we will try and do as much of this work before the library opens as possible) – if someone has an early session booked in to the PC Labs and they require quiet it may be best if they book another room.

  • Our MFD provision may be reduced on Friday 26 July (though we will always have several MFDs in service at any time).

  • There may be no Library Help Desk, Library Welcome Desk and ISD Service Desk service on the morning of Monday 29 July as we install temporary desks (though we will try and complete this work before the library opens at 08:30 and we may avoid any service interruption).

  • For the duration of the project we will only make new UCL Library cards after 11am Monday-Friday (and 10:00-17:45 on Saturdays as normal). We will however issue paper passes before 11am to enable people to use the IOE Library for reference (if they have the correct ID). But these won’t give access to other UCL libraries. UCL Library cards can still be made at the Main, Science and Cruciform libraries.
