Upcoming Strikes at UCL

The national University and College Union (UCU) has announced plans for the strike action in March 2022, which may affect your studies.

The University and College Union (UCU) has announced plans for strike action in a number of universities throughout the UK, which will begin from 21 March 2022, to support a dispute about pay and pensions. At UCL, some members of staff will be striking for five days in March 2022. Please check your UCL emails and Moodle for updates throughout this period of industrial action.

When will the strike take place?

  • 21-25 March 2022

Why are some staff striking?

The trade union, UCU which represents staff in universities in the UK asked its members to vote on action related to our pay, our conditions and our pensions.  Staff voted to strike if our requests for improved pay and conditions were not met.

Are all staff striking?

No, only those who have decided to take action - it is a legal event and one that staff may choose to do.

What will it mean for me?

Some of your teaching sessions may be cancelled - it depends on what days of the week your teaching or meetings are scheduled. Cancelled events will not be reorganised at a later date because the purpose of a strike is to disrupt normal events.

What do I need to do?

Keep checking your UCL emails and ensure that your read communications from your tutors and via Moodle announcements.  The National Union of Students (NUS) - your representative body has information about the strikes (see the link above).

Having queries or concerns?
