Faculty Welcome - IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society

A welcome message by Prof Li Wei, Director and Dean of the IOE

Dear Student

A warm welcome to IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society. We are delighted to have you join us.

Whether you are studying with us for months or years, I hope you find that time really rewarding. Whatever your stage in life, whether you are commencing your course straight from school or college or long after the start or your career, this is a new journey. Meeting new people, engaging with new knowledge, developing new skills: these are exciting opportunities; not always easy, but certainly transformative. And, we hope, transformative for both you and the communities and workplaces you are part of. Our students and how they put their learning with us to use are our most important legacy.

I am incredibly proud to be Dean and Director of IOE. It is home to a unique concentration of world-leading scholars in the fields of education, social science and the humanities, as well as a student body from, typically, over 100 countries. That makes it a vibrant and inspiring place to work and learn, supported by our fantastic library. Please make the most of what this setting offers, including the many seminars and events for you to get involved with and, indeed, initiate, alongside your course. This is not to mention all of the facilities, societies and sources of support available to you across UCL and through the Students’ Union. Please also let us know how we’re doing, so that we can develop in close collaboration with you.

For now, I wish you every success with your course, and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and hearing about your time at IOE.
