Introducing IOE Impact Stories 2025
"These themes reflect how IOE’s vision becomes a reality through the inspirational work of our researchers and their robust and ethical engagement with practice and policy." – Professor Lynn Ang.
IOE Impact Stories 2025: Grand Challenges Special Edition
I am delighted to introduce the IOE Impact Stories 2025. This year’s edition showcases the interdisciplinary, ground-breaking research led by UCL Institute of Education (IOE) researchers and shaped by UCL’s Grand Challenges programme in collaboration with a wide range of partners.
The stories exemplify the diverse expertise in tackling complex global, national and local societal challenges to drive meaningful social change. From Mental Health and Wellbeing, Data-Empowered Societies, to Justice and Equality, these themes reflect how the IOE’s vision becomes a reality through the inspirational work of our researchers and their robust and ethical engagement with practice and policy. Central to the IOE’s Research Strategic Plan are the research collaborations and close partnerships with individuals and organisations that share our values and aspirations to produce outcomes that bring about impact and benefits to the wider community. The annual Impact Stories is a testament to this vision.
I would like to thank everyone at the faculty and beyond who have supported and contributed to the Impact Stories 2025, in particular Sam Balch (Director, UCL Grand Challenges), Professor Becky Taylor (IOE Academic Head of Engagement and Impact), the UCL Grand Challenges team, Dr Lucy Davies, Tatiana Souteiro Dias, IOE Marketing and Communications and the research development editorial team, who have brought this publication together. We are grateful to UCL Research Culture and Research England for their continued funding and support for IOE’s impact and engagement activities. Most of all I would like to thank the authors and research teams, all IOE researchers and their research, policy and practice partners whose collaboration contributes to making the IOE a beacon for such powerful impact.
