Dr Trevor Male is an Associate Professor in Educational Leadership.
What attracted you to take up your position at IOE?
Working for the worldwide number one for Education (QS World University Rankings by Subject).
What do you most enjoy about your position?
Being a part of a leading centre for educational leadership in the UK.
What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?
The work I do on the MBA programme, plus my publications.
What is the focus of your research and what benefits do you hope your discoveries or insights will bring?
I now have two foci for my research – pedagogical leadership and leadership in multi-academy trusts in England.
What's the most important thing you've learned from your students?
Recognition of the varied circumstances that they deal with when seeking to be effective leaders.
What is it like working in London?
London as a city is a huge attraction, but we need to remember we still have to be empathic and supportive of our colleagues across the world.
What other subject outside of your area of specialism interests you?
The use of digital technologies and artificial intelligences in student learning.
What might it surprise people to know about you?
That one time, a long time ago, I was a nationally ranked athlete.
Is there anything else you would like to add about your experiences at IOE?
It is great to be an academic in one of the top universities in the world and in the number one for Education (or have I already said that)?
