Professor Jo Van Herwegen and Professor Denis Mareschal (Birkbeck, University of London) will lead the Educational Neuroscience Policy Research Centre (ENPRC).
The Educational Neuroscience consortium will bring together expertise from nine leading institutions, with specialisms able to respond to key questions in educational neuroscience and cognitive psychology, applied classroom practice, special educational needs, genetics, and AI in home and school learning.
It will provide a strategic evidence base to inform policy, and provide rapid-response analysis for emerging priorities.
Early Education Minister Olivia Bailey said the new centre will aid the government in “bringing together some of the best minds in the country to make sure our reforms on SEND, early years, and children’s mental health are built on solid foundations, and that we understand the long-term value of the choices we make.”
