The UCL Institute of Education (IOE) professor was part of a session looking at the future role of higher education providers. This discussion explored topics such as financial sustainability, increasing capacity, partnering on school placements, and options for remote learning.

Professor Laurillard spoke about how to support teachers using blended and online learning design to address the challenges of learning recovery. The talk also covered the Early Career Framework (ECF) and how digital learning could be used to enhance ECF recommendations around pupil activities and assessment.

Professor Laurillard also introduced the Blended and Online Learning Design FutureLearn course that aims to support new teachers in learning about effective remote or blended teaching. The course is a way of supporting teachers to address learning recovery and can be embedded in campus ITT courses.

The course participants work on deciding how to take a face-to-face session online and are introduced to the Learning Designer tool, a free online tool for teachers, based on research, to design new online learning sessions.

The Westminster Education Policy Forum conference explored the ITT market review and the possible impact of reforms on the sector, as well as the future role of HE providers and current challenges to effective provision. The event also covered professional development for teachers, examining the Early Career Framework and the new suite of National Professional Qualifications, both of which the IOE will be delivering as a chosen supplier.

‘Priorities for initial teacher training’ took place on Friday 17 September, and was attended by ITE providers, policymakers and stakeholders.
