Professor Laurillard, of the UCL Knowledge Lab, received the international award for her contribution to electronic assessment throughout her career, as decided by a panel of experts. In particular, speakers in the awards ceremony highlighted her widely cited books, her work on conversational framework, and her research into online tools for teachers, games applications for people with low levels of numeracy and the use of Massive open online courses (MOOCs).

In her acceptance speech, Professor Laurillard said: “I was amazed and delighted to be nominated for [the award] and very honoured to be alongside such an impressive list of award winners this year.

“High quality and ingenious e-assessment solutions are exactly what the world of educational technology needs right now. Education is the most influential force for good in the world and technology is the only means to reach almost everyone on the planet. So educational technology is the best means we have for building a socially just and progressive education for everyone. E-assessment will be critical for the success of a just and progressive future education.”

Matt Wingfield, chairman of the e-Assessment Association, added, “Every year, the Awards shine the spotlight on those who are making a positive contribution to e-assessment and help share best practice, innovation and research in technology-enabled assessment. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists with the high quality of submissions a true testament to the continuing calibre of those within the sector, with the international nature of submissions demonstrating the increasing reach of e-assessment right across the globe."

The annual awards are held by the e-Assessment Association, a professional body that promotes better assessment of knowledge, skills and capabilities of people through technology.

Professor Laurillard is Chair of Learning with Digital Technologies at the IOE.
