IOE doctoral student wins best student research award at European conference

22 October 2018

IOE doctoral student Youngmin Seo has been honoured with the ‘Best Student Research Award’ at the annual European Early Childhood Education Research Association conference.

Award

The conference, held in Budapest, Hungary, is the largest early years’ research conference in Europe, bringing together around 1000 delegates from across the world.

Youngmin won the award for her study ‘Quality of Early Childhood Care and Education in Cambodia (ECCE): challenges and future directions’. The research aims to investigate the current status of early childhood care and education quality in Cambodia and identify the challenges in order to suggest directions for improvements in the long term.

Using documentary analysis of comparing four South-east Asian countries (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand) and interview analysis of policy-makers and practitioners in Cambodia, the study suggests what to consider in benchmarking one nation’s ECCE system to the other nations as well as factors to narrow the gap between policy-makers and practitioners.

The European Early Childhood Education Research Association (EECERA) took place from 28-31 August 2018.
