26 November 2018

UCL Institute of Education (IOE) academic Dr Sue Taylor has been recognised as a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Sue Taylor

The Higher Education Academy is a national organisation that promotes excellence in higher education. The award of Principal Fellow recognises exceptional educational leadership and impact in the higher education sector. As of 2015, there were fewer than 200 Principal Fellows in the UK.

Dr Taylor was particularly commended for her focus on adult education within online learning, her impact on Reading Recovery, as well as her delivery of MA and EdD qualifications nationally and internationally.

Dr Taylor was also praised for integrating academic practice through evidence-informed practice and practice-informed research and for implementing the spiral curriculum, where a subject is revisited and expanded upon through the course, in higher education.

Speaking on the award, Dr Taylor said: “I am honoured to receive such prestigious recognition. I always strive to support others in enhancing student learning and take every available opportunity to do so.

“I would like to thank my mentor from UCL Arena, Sam Smidt in recognising my strategic international leadership and impact on high quality student learning in higher education. Achieving this recognition will allow me to continue to make advances in quality student learning by supporting other HEA applicants.”
