Professor Becky Francis, Director of the IOE, said of the announcement:
"I'm delighted that the IOE's leading contribution to the field of education has been recognised for the fourth year in a row. This accolade reflects the Institute's continued and growing strength in addressing fundamental questions about education that have an impact on all members of society.
"Our research explores every discipline and stage of education, and seeks to raise the standard of educational research by investigating factors that lead to tangible improvements in learning. Thanks to the strong links between our research and our teaching, and the outstanding achievements of our alumni, more students are joining us from more countries than ever before, while more organisations are joining forces with us to bring about positive change for individuals, communities and societies around the world."
The QS World University Rankings by subject highlight the world's top universities in a range of subject areas. Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research citations.
UCL features amongst the world's leading institutions in 37 of the 46 subjects featured in this year's rankings. The QS World University rankings - which rank universities overall, rather than at subject level - will be published later this year. In 2016, these rankings placed UCL at number 7 in the world.
