Incoming Director of the Centre for Research on Teachers and Teaching, UCL Institute of Education (IOE).
Professor Martin Mills has been appointed as the inaugural Director of
the Centre for Research on Teachers and Teaching at the IOE. He is currently Head of the School of Education at the
University of Queensland, Australia.
Martin researches in the area of social justice, pedagogies, school reform, teachers' work, alternative education and gender. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences Australia, has held Visiting Professorships at Kings College London, Roehampton and Queen's Belfast, and is the Immediate Past President of the Australian Association for Research in Education.
His most recent books are 'Re-imagining schooling for education', 'Re-engaging young people in education: Learning from alternative schools', and 'The politics of differentiation in schooling'. He has served on numerous government or statutory authority advisory committees in Australia: for example, he is a member of the Education Advisory Group - Youth Affairs Network Queensland (YANQ) and the Ministerial Advisory Committee on the Future of Sate Schooling in Queensland, and has been a member of the Equity Advisory Committee Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA)and. He is an editor of the journal 'Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education'.
