Exploring your inner selves: UCL collaborates with JAGA-NSF for young people of African heritage
How can inner conversations with your ‘selves’ bring fresh creative or intellectual perspectives?
The “Multiple Selves as the Muse” approach treats the internal dialogues between different, sometimes conflicting, parts of one’s personality as a source of creative inspiration.
By engaging inner voices such as the inner critic, the compassionate self, or the anxious self, individuals can unlock new perspectives and foster personal growth. Influenced by the work of Professor Victoria Showunmi and others on identity, decolonisation and multiple selves, JAGA-NSF in collaboration with UCL200 holds this event for young people of African descent.
Explore through quiz and debate, recognising that being in a culture that is different from your heritage evokes multiple ways of being. Self is not one identity but shows in different identities in different contexts.
How can inner conversations with your ‘selves’ bring fresh creative or intellectual perspectives? In which way would you externalise your inner selves to explore, understand and engage them productively? Understand why it is important to nurture your inner selves rather than deny them.
JAGA-NSF is a community group which provides a positive social, cultural and creative environment for young adults of African heritage.
This event will be particularly useful for young people of African descent aged 18 to 40 living in London or other parts of the UK, teachers, post-16 students and researchers.
