Researching disability, gender and violence with young people in Uganda

This seminar will discuss a collaborative ESRC-funded research project, Navigating the Challenges of Violence, Gender and Disability (NAVIGENDI), led by CEID and a team of researchers and activists from the UK and Uganda.

The project explores how intersecting inequalities around disability and gender shape the lives of young people with disabilities in Uganda: their experiences of violence, how they manage and navigate such violence, and the forms of support they draw on.

A central concern is the project’s ‘dialogical’ research approach. This involves bringing together the different kinds of data to understand their connections and disconnections, and engaging as a research team in processes of dialogue, drawing on different positionalities, experiences and epistemologies.

Members of the research team will present some initial insights from Phase 1 of the project. They will discuss emerging issues that are beginning to shape important lines of enquiry the project will pursue and will reflect on the value of the research approach thus far.

This event will be particularly useful for researchers, academics and students.
