Representing the world: The activity of educator and student in educational encounter with the world
Exploring the concepts of educational representation and encounter as aspects of educational dialectics.
David Lewin will explore the concepts of educational representation and encounter as aspects of educational dialectics: involving a dialectical interplay between projection, critique and resonance.
In tension with recent ideas about world-centred education, where the disclosure of the world is central, he argues that the educational (re)presentation of the world is neither simple revelation nor pure projection. David will show how teacher, student, and world co-operate in potentially transformative moments that exceed didactic structures of presentation while remaining structured by them.
He will consider implications for Religious Education in post-secular times, where projection, critique, and openness to transcendent possibility remain in creative tension.
This event will be particularly useful for anyone interested in philosophy of education and religious education.
