Kant and Enlightenment paideia
Discussing Kant’s Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals.
Kant’s Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals is a classic of moral philosophy. It is also, as John Callanan will claim, a specific kind of text, one that has a particular goal in transforming the practical outlook of the reader as they progress from section to section.
Some of the key arguments of the text depend a hopeful expectation that the act of reading will bring the subject to appreciate the force of arguments that might be otherwise rejected, and as such the text is designed to develop and solidify the character of the person through the act of reading.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in Kantian philosophy, moral philosophy and philosophy of education.
