How cultural distance and local context shape immigrant ethno-religious infrastructures
Why do some immigrant communities establish dense ethno-religious infrastructures, while others do not come together as organised groups?

Jonas Wiedner investigates the development of organisational infrastructures in immigrant communities, addressing two major strands of immigration literature: ethnic-group formation and urban ethnic enclaves.
Jonas will discuss how minority communities with similar population sizes can exhibit vastly differently developed organisational ecologies, questioning the adequacy of proxying community organisation by community size in quantitative studies.
He will explain that dimensions of cultural distances between immigrants' origins and the host society consistently predict the presence of organisations.
This event will be particularly useful for researchers, policymakers and teachers.
