Art as a gateway: From non-verbal expression to verbal language
Pia Jaime will discuss her use of creative art techniques to work with young people and adults, researchers and policymakers, to process, express and transform feelings into visual representations.

Some experiences defy language, existing in a space beyond words. Through the use of creative art techniques, Pia has found a way to process, express, and transform these feelings into something visible and more importantly, to connect with others and share these tools for them to access their own channels for expression.
In this seminar, Pia will share her personal journey of using photography, drawing and ceramics as a tool for effective communication, and how her own experience has shaped her as a workshop leader to help young people and adults to navigate pain, grief, and resilience into powerful visual narratives, eventually facilitating the path from visual representation to verbal expression.
"At a time when creative endeavours are presently underappreciated and undervalued, collaboration between artists, researchers and policymakers is crucial. We can’t not all walk in each other's shoes."
This event will be particularly useful for researchers and policymakers interested in engaging with creative and visual methods.
