Real women hurt: Challenging myths about the ancient world
Joan Smith will bring into focus the human stories of twenty-three women closely associated with the Julio-Claudian emperors of Rome, dispelling the myths and misogyny surrounding their histories.

UCL Women's Liberation present this seminar for International Women's Day 2025.
Joan's talk will cover topics from her recent book 'Unfortunately, She was a Nymphomaniac: A New History of Rome's Imperial Women'. The book looks at the history of Imperial Rome's most important women and how they have been misrepresented for 2000 years.
Please note that copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing on the night.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in feminism.
