Equality, diversity, and inclusion: Becoming anti-racist and promoting cultural understanding
The British Caribbean Association Lord Pitt Memorial Lecture 2025.

It's been 60 Years since Martin Luther King and Lord Pitt met at St Pauls – what has changed?
In our education system, race and racism show up in multifaceted ways. Whether that is in the experience of black teachers and students, what is covered in the curriculum, the role of police in schools, and in the policies that schools adopt.
Race in education is not confined to the boundaries of the school gates but has an outward ripple effect throughout British society and economy.
The Windrush Lessons Learned Review found that the Windrush Scandal was in part able to happen due to a “poor understanding of Britain’s colonial history, the history of inward and outward migration, and the history of black Britons.” Embedding anti-racism in our education system is therefore critical, if we want to address the racial stereotypes and institutional racism that are still pervasive.
This event will be useful to anyone who is interested in discussions of equality, diversity and inclusion in our education system.
