Liberal perspectives on inclusion
What actually is inclusion? Hear Dr Joe Mintz discuss reframing inclusion as a process of negotiation.

There is lots of discussion about inclusion, but what the term actually means remains unclear both in practice and policy.
In his new book "Liberal Perspectives on Inclusion: Enlightenment Values and Debates on Equity and Democracy in the Classroom", published by Routledge, Dr Mintz uncovers the political values that lie behind debates about inclusion and argues that inclusion is perhaps better thought of not as an ideal, but rather as a process of negotiation between competing values and priorities.
The book also presents detailed case studies of what this process might look like in the mainstream K-12 classroom, and how teachers deal with the dilemmas of working with difference.
In this highly topical seminar, Dr Mintz will discuss ideas from the book in conversation with Brad Blitz, Professor of International Politics and Policy at IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society.
The seminar will be of particular interest to academics, teachers, school leaders and those interested in policy issues around inclusion.
