Work and wellbeing: Findings from the Skills and Employment Survey 2024
Chaired by Kate Bell, this event will share key findings on how worker participation and wellbeing in Britain have evolved over 40 years, based on the Skills and Employment Survey 2024.

Join us for the launch of the Skills and Employment Survey 2024, the latest in a long-running survey series tracking how work and wellbeing have changed in Britain over the last 40 years.
Chaired by Kate Bell (TUC), this event will present key findings on four critical issues:
- Workplace Abuse – How common is it, and who is affected?
- Worker Participation – Are employees gaining or losing voice at work?
- Trade Unions – Is union influence growing or declining?
- Meaningful Work – What makes work fulfilling, and for whom?
This event is particularly valuable for those working to improve job quality and worker involvement, offering insights into the evolving nature of work and its implications for policy and practice.

- Kate Bell – Assistant General Secretary, TUC. Leads on inter-union relations and policy engagement at the Trades Union Congress.
- Francis Green – Professor of Work and Education Economics, UCL. Specialises in education, skills, job quality, and the graduate labour market.
- Alan Felstead – Emeritus Professor, Cardiff University. Expert in job quality, skills, and workplace learning.
- Duncan Gallie – Emeritus Professor, Nuffield College, Oxford. Researches work quality and the social impact of unemployment.
- Ying Zhou – Professor of Human Resource Management, University of Surrey. Director of the Future of Work Research Centre, studying job quality and well-being.
- Discussion led by: Golo Henseke, Associate Professor, UCL. Applied economist researching skills, wellbeing, and the consequences of technological change.
