Rethinking the geopolitics of higher education
Join this event to hear speakers build on the extant literature to rethink the relationship between higher education and geopolitics.
Scholarship on the geopolitics of higher education explores how national sectors and individual institutions are both subject to, and actors within, geopolitical dynamics.
Research shows how HE actors have been used by national governments to exert geopolitical influence, but also exert geopolitical influence of their own. Examples include French and American missionary universities, global rankings and European university alliances.
This conference rethinks the relationship between higher education and geopolitics in relation to three specific themes:
- Capacity building?
- Partnerships?
- Conceptualising (cross-)regional spaces.
Speakers
- Tristan McCowan and Lee Rensimer (UCL)
- Maia Chankseliani and David Mills (University of Oxford)
- Rachel Brooks (University of Surrey)
This in-person event will be particularly useful for researchers, policymakers and students.
