Developmental language disorder (DLD) affects 7% of children and yet awareness of the nature of DLD and how to support children and adults with DLD is very low, not only among the public but also among professionals who work with children.
In this lecture, Susan will discuss the overlap of DLD with other conditions, the key signs of DLD and the impact it can have on children’s lives and education. She will then discuss multi-tiered systems of support with a particular focus on Tiers 1 (support for all children) and 3 (individualised support).
At Tier 1, she will briefly discuss support and adaptations that particularly help children with DLD and will signpost further information on supporting children with DLD in the classroom. At Tier 3, she will introduce some of her research which investigates the effectiveness of support and teaching from Speech and Language Therapists in developing the vocabulary and grammar skills of children with DLD.
This lecture will be followed by a wine reception.
This in-person event will be particularly useful for researchers, teachers, educators, and parents.
