Remembering revolt and other moments of political rupture
Join this event to explore how moments of political rupture are woven and rewoven into dominant historical narratives.

This seminar will explore a range of events: from Chile’s coup d’etat, to Iran’s revolution, the demise of East Germany, India’s partition, the Windrush scandal, South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle, the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Participants will explore the tension between individual and collective memory, the fraught process of contesting national narratives, and the mechanisms by which events become known and/or hidden in the process of national political storytelling. Participants in the symposium will be invited to reflect on their own scholarly practices: and together discuss what conducting research looks like on such contested and shifting terrain.
This in-person event will be particularly useful for researchers.
