Representation and erasure in pedagogical materials: The strange case of queer absence
Join this event to hear John Gray discuss Anglo-American English Language Teaching (ELT) materials and the ways they represent a heteronormative world in which non-normative ways of being are ruthless
John will explore some of the main reasons for this erasure, paying particular attention to the concepts of reproductive futurism, hyper-reactionary neoliberalism, post-fascism and the commercial logic of ELT edu-business.
He will also present the argument that many of these elements can be found in other educational settings and are increasingly congruent with the spread of a dangerous new politics of the right.
This in-person event will be particularly useful for philosophers of Education, linguists, teachers and those interested in policy making and curriculum designing.
