The river-bed of thoughts and conceptual change
Join this event to hear Stephen Burwood discuss the messy uncertainty of conceptual change.

A key metaphor in Wittgenstein’s On Certainty is the river-bed of thoughts, and central to the metaphor is the acknowledgement of conceptual change.
In this seminar, Stephen will talk about a suggestive aspect of the metaphor, the picture of protean mutability it imparts, and how this recognises the fluctuating nature of our world-pictures. He will explore how the mutability expressed in the passage speaks to conceptual change.
This in-person event will be particularly useful for researchers interested in Wittgensteinian philosophy, the idea of certainty, human embodiment and embodied subjectivity.
