In this event, Alessia and Luca will compare: competence based education, which is very popular and dominant nowadays, and Bildung based education, which relies on the German notion of Bildung (or formation).
The first approach is atomistic, assessment-oriented and fits perfectly within a view of education that marries neoliberal logics. The second approach is instead holistic, teaching-oriented and in line with a neo-humanist vision of education. By analysing their respective advantages and disadvantages, Alessia and Luca will suggest merging these two approaches into one.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in philosophy of education.
PESGB seminar series
This event is part of the Philosophy of Education Society of Great Britain (PESGB) seminar series. PESGB is a learned society that promotes the study, teaching and application of philosophy of education. Its London Branch hosts seminars every Wednesday in conjunction with the Centre for Philosophy of Education. These seminars are led by national and international scholars in the field, covering a wide range of issues of educational and philosophical concern.
All are welcome to attend.
