Much current tech development in education is geared towards improving the monitoring, assessment and personalisation of learning, drawing heavily on Artificial Intelligence (AI). While there is merit in this approach, Yvonne Rogers will argue that it overlooks much of the earlier aspirations behind tech innovation which was to bring joy and inspiration to learning.

In this talk, Yvonne will explain how, in her view, revisiting novel interfaces can be designed to promote learning Per Se – in its various forms. In particular, her current research is concerned with developing conversational user interfaces (CUIs) and cognitive toolsets that can encourage us to talk more, think deeply and be creative in how we tackle complex problems. While her focus is on collaborative working, this research agenda can equally apply to enhancing collaborative learning in the classroom and beyond.

This event will be particularly useful for those interested in AI and education, technology and education, conversational user interfaces and interface design.
