In this webinar, Dr Zhong will share her experience in working across the boundaries in education, research, and service in China and overseas. She will also share about the creative tensions she experienced as a comparatist in education. 

In this webinar, Dr Jing Liu will share his experience as a teacher and researcher in Japan’s higher education. He will introduce opportunities and barriers as he is actively promoting internationalisation and teaching and learning for promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This event will be particularly useful for those interested in: higher education, PhD students and international postgraduate research (PGR) students.

CHES and CERA Summer Webinar Series

This Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) and Chinese Educational Research Association (CERA) Summer Webinar Series is a practical webinar series for international Postgraduate Research (PGR) students on navigating their academic trajectory in east Asia.

The aim of this series is to identify the dilemma faced by international PGR students (particularly female students), and explore possible corresponding strategies in developing a successful academic career.

About the Speakers

Dr Zhou Zhong

Associate Professor at Department of Education, Tsinghua 

Zhou served as the Associate Dean of the Office of International Affairs, Tsinghua University, in 2016-2018.

She has a background in English Language and Literature (BA, Peking) and Comparative and International Education (MSc, DPhil, Oxon). Her research is about comparative, international, interdisciplinary, and cross-cultural studies of the university and higher education.

Her recent research projects are about internationalisation, global strategy, and global competence education.

Dr Jing Liu

Associate Professor at Graduate School of Education, Tohoku University

Prior to the current position, Jing served as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, Japan, from 2013 to 2017.

Then, he worked as a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Education, University of Tokyo between 2017 and 2019. His research areas include sociology of education, international comparative education and development, and education for sustainability.
