VIRTUAL EVENT: Navigating your academic trajectory in Hong Kong
In this webinar, Dr Jisun Jung and Dr Weiyan Xiong will share their experiences working in Hong Kong higher education.

This activity is a researcher-led initiative that has been funded by UCL Doctoral Skills Development Programme: UCL researcher-led initiatives.
Dr Jisun Jung will share her experience as an international academic in Hong Kong higher education. She will talk about opportunities and challenges as she navigates the tensions between multiple demands and pressures.
Dr Weiyan Xiong will introduce the career-related features of Hong Kong higher education and share his observations and experiences of working in a Hong Kong university.
This event will be particularly useful for those interested in: higher education, PhD students and international postgraduate research (PGR) students.

CHES and CERA Summer Webinar Series
This Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) and Chinese Educational Research Association (CERA) Summer Webinar Series is a practical webinar series for international Postgraduate Research (PGR) students on navigating their academic trajectory in east Asia.
The aim of this series is to identify the dilemma faced by international PGR students (particularly female students), and explore possible corresponding strategies in developing a successful academic career.

Jisun's current research focuses on postgraduate education and employment, and the academic profession. Her recent co-edited books include:
- 'Universities in the knowledge society' (with Timo Aarrevaara, Martin Finkelstein, and Glen A. Jones, Springer, 2021)
- 'The changing academic profession in Hong Kong' (with Gerard A. Postiglione, Spriner, 2017)
- 'Researching Higher Education in Asia' (with Hugo Horta and Akiyoshi Yonezawa, Springer, 2017)
She is a co-editor of Higher Education Research & Development.
Research Assistant Professor

Weiyan’s research interests include comparative and international education, indigenous education, liberal arts education, sustainability in higher education, and faculty professional development.
He received his PhD in Higher Education Management from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Peking University.
In addition to research and teaching, Weiyan is serving as the program director of the MA in International Higher Education and Management (IHEM) at Lingnan University. He used to serve as a program coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh Institute for International Studies in Education and a visiting student researcher at the UC Berkeley Myers Center for Research on Native American Issues.
